First up is psychoanalysis and a good definition to give is that this therapy deals with past unconscious mental patterns that came from childhood. This therapy was developed by Sigmund Freud and he was known for being very interested in the unconscious. Furthermore on the treatment type, it focuses on deep-rooted that most softened stemmed from childhood. By doing this therapy it lets the clients learn how to bring by repressed memories or experiences that could be casing distress. Let us look at key ideas of psychoanalysis. The main theme is to find out what is hidden deep within the person’s mind. Two terms that come in are Determinism â€Å"is idea that everything that happens has a cause can be Identified† and Psychic determinism â€Å"is the†¦show more content†¦Freud thought that this was an insight to someone’s mind and that what was said was no mistake. (3) Free Association is that classic technique that we have all seen on TV where the patient is told to say whatever comes to their mind after the therapist reads a list of words. Example being the therapist says dog and the patient says fat. The hope in this tactic is that pie ces of repressed memories will surface during the free association. This tactic is not that useful if the client is showing hesitation, but the hesitation can give strong evidence of something that is repressed. Freud reported that this tactic sometimes caused his patients to have such vivid memories that they almost relived their experience. One last tactic used is Dream Analysis. This basically this deals with the idea is that repressed memories are clearer in dreams. This where Freud got really weird with his ideas, but there is not much after to go on with what he thinks. The role of the therapist is critical. The psychoanalyst utilizes the dreams, fantasies, associations, and expressions of the thoughts given verbally and physically. The therapist uses the info to incite the inner problems that are rumbling within the client and that are the reasons for the symptoms and behavior issues. The issues can become so bad that it causes a person to seek treatment. The therapist works with person to deal with the underlying problem and work through the transference and resistance.
